Everyday care for a happy Maine Coon.

Bathe every 1–3 months or when needed, with a shampoo made for cats. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. Many Maine Coons actually enjoy water!
Trim the tips every 2–3 weeks and give several tall, sturdy scratching posts — Maine Coons love to stretch out fully.
Check them weekly. Clean gently with a vet-approved solution; never push cotton buds into the ear canal.
Check teeth and gums regularly. Special dental powders (such as PlaqueOff) or water additives help prevent plaque. From about 6–12 months, once the adult teeth are in, you can also brush with a cat toothpaste or an enzymatic gel.
We use top-entry litter boxes: ammonia does not build up around the cat, it feels safe and private, can dig as much as it likes — and the litter falls off its paws as it jumps out. Open boxes with high sides or automatic boxes work well too. We do not recommend hooded front-entry boxes: ammonia collects inside while the cat is there and can irritate its airways over time.
Big, stable cat trees and daily play together. Maine Coons are sociable gentle giants and do not like being alone for long.
Secure windows and balconies with cat nets, remove toxic plants and keep small objects, strings and medicines out of reach.
Start with one quiet room, keep the same food and litter as with us, and introduce other pets slowly. We are always a message away.
